Working to protect and improve the wild trout fishery in Putah Creek
The 2017 Down the Hatch Festival is now a happy memory for many. If you joined us, THANK YOU for your generous support! If you didn’t have the opportunity – don’t miss this event next year!
The organizers fretted – If we planned a program of fun, information, food and libation… will they come? The answer was a resounding “YES!” Over 150 Orvis Down the Hatch movie festival tickets were sold and many more came to enjoy the free events before the movie. Approximately $5000! was raised to support Putah Creek Trout’s effort to protect and improve the wild trout fishery in Putah Creek.
Vendors representing Orvis, Sage, Sawyer Oars, Jackson Kayaks, and Orion Coolers were featured at the entrance. The casting competition was a spectacle. A kiddie fishing game entertained and thrilled the younger set – many left with big grins as they walked away with their “catch”,
The courtyard was filled with like-minded enthusiasts listening to the electric sound of the Five Thirty band and enjoying camaraderie while enjoying beer from 3 mile Brewery and wine from Bogle Vineyards. Many guides were discussing trips and demonstrating fly tying. Arm loads of raffle tickets were sold.
Putah Creek Trout and the Fly Fishers of Davis tables were abuzz with discussion including the current restoration and enhancement work being done currently and planned for the future.
The amazing night culminated in the only Northern California showing of the Orvis Down the Hatch film. Funny, insightful, thought provoking and simply gorgeous! The theater was packed (with only a few more seats to fill next year to reach capacity). Great prizes were raffled off including the grand prize of a newly released Orvis H3 rod of choice!
Thanks again to everyone who came out and enjoyed the festival. Special thanks to the organizers, sponsors, venders, demonstrators, and volunteers who all pulled together and created a wonderful event!
